Symmetry Software, specialists in payroll withholding tax solutions for the internet and corporate intranets, released today a video highlighting the upgraded geocoding features for its Payroll Point product. Payroll Point helps employers determine the proper withholding tax rates based on an employee's resident and work address, ensuring that payroll professionals get the right taxes, the first time.®

For millions of wage earners, ensuring that the proper taxes are being withheld from their paychecks requires extreme accuracy in calculating payroll deductions based on location. Some states have thousands of tax jurisdictions even down to the municipal and school district level, while others have none. Symmetry Software uses Melissa Data's GeoCoder Object with GeoPoints solution to align precise latitude and longitude coordinates based on the 11-digit (ZIP+4+2) delivery point of nearly 122 million addresses in the U.S. This higher level of accuracy provides a distinct set of coordinates for every valid address - giving Symmetry the actual, physical location of the address, right to the building or property's rooftop. When passing these coordinates along tax boundary shape files, Symmetry's Payroll Point is able to determine the most accurate local taxes to date.

Jon Bohnert, Executive Vice President of Symmetry Software, describes some of the product enhancements: "For Symmetry, there are many advantages to integrating GeoPoints into our Payroll Point product. First and foremost, we've experienced significant improvement to rooftop accuracy. Because GeoPoints is housed on our servers, reliability has improved and latency issues have been virtually eliminated. More and better accuracy codes, improved support - overall, we are able to offer our own customers a significantly better product."

Payroll Point is available in four versions:
  • Payroll Point Lite is a web-based service that determines the proper withholding tax settings based on an employee's resident and work addresses. With the Lite edition, simply enter the address and view the list of taxes that apply to that address.
  • Payroll Point Pro is a web service that delivers a detailed withholding tax list for an employee using several variables. In addition to employee resident and work addresses, Payroll Point Pro also takes into consideration nexus, state reciprocity agreements, and filing statuses of non-resident withholding forms. Tax rates are displayed alongside descriptions of the taxes.
  • Payroll Point Batch offers the same functionality as Payroll Point Pro, with the ability to run thousands of addresses at a time by running a .csv file through Payroll Point.
  • Payroll Point Web Services delivers details about payroll withholding tax jurisdictions, rates, and values in an XML structure.
